Back on Shannon Road

We got up early to head home. Long drive, not too bad. Took a lunch break at a truck stop outside of Phoenix. I took pictures at one of our stops.
This was the first saguaro we have seen in two months.

Unfortunately, a sight like this was all too common, and not just in Arizona. Don't people care about the only planet they have? What do they think happens to their garbage when they just dump it anywhere?

The views are just as spectacular as I remember!

We got home ready to unload the trailer and met with an issue similar to the one two years ago: the bedroom slide would not go out nor come back in! We managed to squeeze in for some of the necessary things. Crawling over the bed for three huge bags of laundry was quite interesting! Cary did manage to get it closed and open, but we are concerned. Too hot to worry about it now. We never look forward to the huge list of things we have to do, but we remind ourselves, we could stay home and there wouldn't be such a long list!

Home Tomorrow

We are in Kingman tonight with wifi service again. No luck in Bakersfield. I took a few pictures but am too tired to post.

Sunrise RV Park, because Ft. Beale was full. It turned out for the best since we can use Passport America for a 50% discount. And it is nice.

Pine trees!

Our trailer is cooling off pretty well. Yay!

Cary's Birthday

No big celebrating yet! We are in Patterson, got KFC for supper last night (I got a grilled chicken breast and steamed my own veggies.) and just went to get fuel and some Subway to take on the road with us as we make our way to Bakersfield. First we plan to watch Perry Mason!

More Pictures

After supper it got nice enough to take a walk. Sunset wasn't as pretty as those in Tucson, but it was nice.

Just to the right (your right) of that structure you can barely make out the cloud of smoke from the Delta Fire.

You can see the cloud of smoke over the second fence post from the left.

This pinkish smoke is to the west of the Delta fire. There are a few burning in the area.

Our RV park in Corning.

Cary got out his binoculars to scope the smoke.

Several stray kitties and their parents--we counted seven.

Thursday morning we talked to a guy in the park who was on the freeway and had to be re-routed yesterday. He left Seven Feathers when we did (8ish) but took longer at a few rest stops. They had him take highway 89 to 299; he arrived here at 10:30 last night. Ugh!

Two Casinos

Briefly (because we only have off-and-on internet), we spent last night at Seven Feathers in Canyonville, Oregon. The GPS pronounce it Ca-ny-on-ville, or something like that! Pretty location. I had to renew my player's card so I could save $4 at the buffet--we ate way too much, of course.
Lots of beautiful flowers around the casino. The setting is pretty amazing too.

We got an early start to head to Corning. This park is very nice.

Tonight we are at the Rolling Hills Casino near Corning, CA. It is a long, winding, up and down drive, took six hours. Our air conditioning works great. This morning it was 49 degrees in Canyonville after needing the fan going the night before.

The drive is quite arduous, lots of steep grades going uphill and down.

Everything is very dry. As we crossed into California we began seeing remnants of fires.

Mt. Shasta

We had lunch at the rest stop with this view.

Not sure what the problem was with this truck. He had dropped his trailer in one of the parking spots.

After we had been here just an hour we heard on the news that Interstate 5 is shut down in both directions north of Redding. We are about 50 miles south of Redding. Drove past that whole area, so glad we left Oregon when we did. I am anxious to hear more news--I don't think the wind is coming this way!

I am fixing supper tonight; Cary checked out the info and we are too cheap to pay $20 each!

Salem Still

We have had a good time, slowing down somewhat. Beautiful days that are not too hot, although yesterday was the first day I wore shorts since southern California, back to jeans today with the cool breeze. Naps were appropriate. I took some pictures, will post later.

Stay Tuned

I have gotten behind, but rest assured, we are still having fun. In Salem now, visited with friends Mark and Ginger--out for Mexican food. That was after Cary and I made our way through the countryside to find a barn sale--lots of goodies. Pictures will eventually follow.

Our last day in Newport we went to the Antique Mall. Cary bought a brand new jacket but I never got his picture. Check back!

This was our site in the annex section of the South Beach Marina in Newport. Nothing special, but adequate, unless you count the no wi-fi factor! Cary and the neighbor chatted for the first time. The guy had been crabbing with friends; they got way over their limit and had to throw back the extras. Each guy is allowed 12 a day. Wish we had been there!

This is the barn sale I mentioned. See that Singer sewing machine--just $7! It probably weighed 40 pounds. I did not get it. But we did get some good stuff, including a few books.

Since we had already gone out for Mexican food, Saturday night we ordered pizza from Papa Murphy's and baked it at Ginger's. Salad too. Great conversation and food too. Ginger is doing really well after her fall a few weeks ago (she broke her hip)--trying to get one of the cats down from the top shelf of her entertainment unit so he wouldn't break anything!
No plans for tomorrow, maybe some rest!

Tuesday and Wednesday

Tuesday was a beautiful day. Blue sky, sunshine and perfect temperatures. This is a view of the harbor as we drove across the Yaquina Bay Bridge. Later we walked over to an antique store near the RV park. Nothing we needed though!

We went to Georgie's for a seafood supper. I got some yummy halibut tacos with a mango salsa Cary got fish and chips. The fish was breaded in panko, something different.

I didn't have anyone to take our pictures outside the restaurant, so this is two pictures that I photostitched. We usually pose closer together!

Wednesday was cloudy (foggy?) all day and cool.

We tried a selfie! We went down to the harbor (Cary calls it down town, not sure exactly what it calls itself) for more of Mo's clam chowder and to play tourist. Our first stop was a bookstore where I bought The Bad-Ass Librarians of Timbuktu (how could I pass that up?) and How to Bake Pi (the symbol for pi was on the cover). I am not a math person at all but it looked really interesting.

We walked out on a deck to see the boats.

The Pacific Ram

I took this about 2:30 when we headed out for the third time today! We really expected the weather in Newport to be like this the whole time we were here, so yesterday was a nice surprise. Not complaining! Looking forward to another whole day tomorrow.

Newport

When we checked in the Marina RV park Monday afternoon we spotted a 5th wheel with the same paint as ours. Sure enough, it was also a Hitchhiker, Champagne edition. We went over to see it but no one was home.

We did get back over on Tuesday and caught them there. Chatted for several minutes. Theirs is a year newer than ours, had it customized at the factory in Kansas.

I am now at the Newport, Oregon library using my computer. No internet at the Marina. TV pretty spotty also. Lovely day today, so I want to be out enjoying it anyway. We will probably be back tomorrow!

One More Thing

I forgot to mention this a few days ago. While browsing in one of shops in Old Town Florence, we both were looking at the silly magnets on display. Cary was on one side of the display and I was on the other. At the same time we each grabbed a magnet to show the other--and this was it!
I think we know each other!

Memory Test

One of the four or five yard sales we checked out on Friday and Saturday. I found another book, passed up a jar of buttons (!), and decided on two pieces of fabric--I could have had the whole box for $1, but even I have my limits.

This was taken about 7:30 when we got up. Brrr. But it warmed up nicely until the afternoon winds blew in! Blue sky though.

We are still in Florence but had to change RV parks since I hadn't gotten reservations early enough. Pacific Pines is close to Fred Meyer's, so that is nice. Cary got propane there on Sunday. The mural above is pictured on the side of the office at the park.

Lots of Duck fans here! The previous owners of the RV park own this cutie! It would be a hoot to have one painted red and blue with Wildcat pictures for tailgate parties!

This is in our park, really slick. Yesterday we went to a trailer sales place to look at one of the Vintage brand (retro) trailers. I didn't take a picture, but found one on the Internet.

Very cute, and I probably could manage if we just took it for a long weekend somewhere.
This is the smaller of the two we saw.

This is our spot in the park. Tomorrow we head to Newport.

Home Sweet Home
