First Day

Foggy start to the day, found two yard sales. More on my finds tomorrow.

So foggy, in fact, you can hardly see the lighthouse: this was our view from the parking lot as we made our way to work.

I snapped several photos between tourists. The stairs leading up to the tower do not have a hand rail.

From one of the bedroom windows

We led tours for four hours, came home exhausted. Very fun meeting people from all over. More to come on Sunday. Tomorrow we are going over just to meet the couple we will be working with. It's transition day.

It Just Keeps Getting Better

I feel like a broken record talking about how nice the day is. We took some Subway sandwiches to our favorite picnic spot, along with a thermos of coffee and some cookies.
I don't have photostitch on this computer, a feature I really miss. So here is a picture of two shots dropped into Power Point and re-photographed. Not great!

And here are our views from the picnic table

Here is the bin of fabric that Dottie gave me yesterday. A few things have already been taken out, now to find a place for it all! Tomorrow I will make Cary a new mask.

Grilling chicken for supper.

Cary go the idea to go to the beach and watch the sunset, so we got in the truck about 8:30. It really was gorgeous. Pictures in no particular order.

Rain on Tuesday

On Monday we made a post office run--sold the last of my tiny Hagen-Renaker miniature animals (bought at a yard sale two weeks ago). Stopped by the St. Vinnie's thrift store in search of elastic or appropriate fabric; Cary wants me to make him a new mask that won't irritate his nose. Monday afternoon we are going to see Dottie N., who has loads of fabric, so I didn't get anything else and still need some elastic. The sun finally came out so we had lots of nice walking and reading outside.A

Awoke to a gentle rain this morning. Our plans are to head up the road to Brookings, Oregon, for fuel and some shopping. It is not raining at the moment (8:44 a.m.), but it is pretty wet outside.

Stay tuned for further information after our trip!

Foggy drive into Brookings

Checking out the Chevy in the Fred Meyer's parking lot. Fuel is a dollar cheaper per gallon here than in CC, worth the trip.

We ate lunch at Pancho's, shopped at two thrift stores (I found a few things and so did Cary.), and looked at the fabric store too.

Later in the afternoon we went by our friend, Dottie's, so we could go through her fabric stash. She wanted to whittle it down and I could help--came home with lots of goodies, even elastic for the new masks Cary wants me to make. Dottie also gave me the info for installing the tide chart app on my phone. We may need it if we don't get a definite schedule by Sunday.

This was the sky tonight (about 8:30).

A very successful day!

Super Saturday

Started with two yard sales, but didn't find anything. Came upon the farmers market down on the harbor. I wonder if it alternates between the fairgrounds where we saw it a few times and here. One of the ladies who RVs in the park was there selling her beaded jewelry. I bought an assortment of small tomatoes--a rainbow selection.

Walked around the harbor some too.

Cary had a question for the guys working on this boat.

Of course I had to get a picture of the lighthouse from the harbor.

By the Elk Casino on our way back after the yard sales.

We spent some time reading outside. Too nice to be in.

Friday

We have had a string of absolutely beautiful days. Thursday started cloudy, but by 2:00 when the ice cream social started, it was almost hot! I took pictures but must not have put them on the computer. The reason for the social was to discuss wifi and tv reception and some options. Lots of folks already have their own dish or satellite; others have hotspots. All is beyond my paygrade, but apparently I am going to have to learn. I just want to go to my computer, pay bills, work on my blog, check email and keep track of Etsy...and I want to turn on the tv and get a show once in awhile. I guess I am not too old to learn something new. We shall see!

Before we headed to a yard sale, we watched the park workers take out a rotted storage shed. They replaced it with something better later in the day. A permanent trailer was parked here, but got moved to somewhere south of Sacramento; we expect a new one at any time.

I found some goodies at the yard sale--a really cool shirt--

only 25 cents! I also got a small cutting board (for fabric), a pair of gloves, two silver cake plates, a free book on constellations (written by the same couple who wrote the Curious George books)
and a huge piece of denim for whatever project might call for it down the road.

We went to the Apple Peddlar for supper. Salmon and chicken friend steak. Guess who had which entrée?!

We did squeeze in a trip to the library to return stuff and get more. Watched one of the videos and stayed up too late: The Judge with Robert Downey and Robert Duval. So so.

Tuesday

The days have kind of run together...one nice day after another! Laundry, groceries and today the library. If we were able to show we have an address while we are here, we could get a library card.  I had just received my prescriptions by mail, so we qualified. I found a book and Cary got a video. The TV and wifi continue to be very off and on, more off, so a video once in awhile is nice.

I contacted Ken at the lighthouse to see when we could go visit them. He asked if we would be available to help starting next week; his family has been helping and they needed to leave. Of course, we said yes. So either Sunday or Monday we will be getting a jump on our official August position, leading tours and helping in the gift shop. Next month, if everything goes as planned, we will be working with the Mayberrys!

Beautiful Saturday

We started the day as usual, found a few yard sales and a few goodies. Walmart was a zoo, one checkout lane and just one of the self-check areas open.... But we had nothing else going on and did need a few things (of course)!

More blue skies, but no accompanying heat. A perfect day.

Cary borrowed a ladder from the park owner so he could get on the roof to give it some much needed TLC. He tried calling a few people to have someone else do the job, but no one even returned a call to explain how busy they were. I stayed outside the whole time, just in case!

Friends Visit

It is always great to have friends come for a visit! In this picture Peggy and I  are saying hi to another friend in Tucson (you know who you are)!

Cary and Martin waiting for our lunch at Perlita's

They didn't ahve time for a big tour--the truck and trailer are parked at Village Camper Inn for a permitted two hour time period, but we had to drive up to the lighthouse. It is the prettiest day we have had this month, specially ordered for company!

They are headed to Portland, taking a leisurely drive, arriving hopefully before the birth of their first grandchild. It was a great visit.

Wednesday, July 14

We went to the Chart Room for a late lunch/early supper, trying to beat the crowds. Still had a half hour wait, but Cary enjoys the people watching and I took a book of NY Times crossword puzzles. Good food, as always.

A couple of views looking south from the parking lot

And the view looking towards the lighthouse, lots of sea lions basking in the sun.

We got word from friends from Tucson that they will be paying us a visit on Friday.

Tuesday

Walked on the beach today, and yes, it looked exactly like this, gray and cool.

Obviously we have lots to learn about taking a selfie! It is hard to see the screen; I had three pics of Cary's thumb, so this is an improvement!

After lunch the sun came out at the RV park and we still see blue sky. It's been over a week since that last occurred.

Cary always has to be improving, cleaning, building, rearranging...something!

Saturday

There was only one yard sale listed in the CC newspaper. We have been on this road before and have wondered about the clock...but forgot to ask!

We did find two more sales; Cary bought a wonderful book, Home to Texas, nonfiction, first published in 1941.

I am not sure if this is Elsie, but I was hoping it was Slinky. Slinky, named for its movements resembling the toy, has the shortest little legs--like a dachshund! Elsie (obviously resembling Slinky except for the short legs), is always observing anyone who passes by. Often from a bush, but usually just out in the open, checking us out and wanting to be petted. The steps you see in the picture are the owner's home, one of the five or six residences inside the park.

Cary grilled chicken for supper, enough for leftovers. My favorite kind of meal.
