Crescent City

We made it here in a little over three hours. Internet and TV are as bad this year as they were last year, so I am writing quickly!

I talked to the couple who are the keepers this month; they move in tomorrow and we will start Tuesday, again with Covid protocols in place: masks and limits to group sizes and eliminating the kitchen and keepers' bedroom on the tour, as well as not accompanying them in the tower. The guests may even choose to take turns in tower, depending on whether they are all family members or friends traveling together or not. It worked last year.

Several folks in the park have had or currently have Covid now. We never quit wearing masks, and will be extra cautious.

Beautiful weather (I took my crossword puzzle outside and got hit with 15 or 20 huge rain drops, stopped as soon as I moved inside.)--so nice to be cool!

More Adventures

After a trip to Walmart, we met Susan at one of my favorite shops in Coos Bay.

Two stories of lot of interesting stuff. Nothing I needed today, but always fun to look.

Lunch at Shark Bites. Susan got crab cakes, Cary a shrimp melt and I had a big bowl of clam chowder.

On the way back to the vehicles, we had one more shop to browse. Home for a rest (after getting more fuel).

Took a walk later, snapped this photo of the bay next to the RV park. We found a couple from Yuma parked nearby, spent an hour or so talking and comparing. They are headed to Crescent City either tomorrow or the next day, told them about Village Camper Inn.

Fun Start to the Day and a Very Nice End

We met Susan at this cute bookshop/café this morning.

It used to be a bank; you can see the vault door here next to Cary browsing the biographies.

Lunch was a turkey cranberry sandwich on whole wheat and a few strawberries. Susan had a store credit for used paperbacks. She invited us to find some--and we did--we could have found even more. The woman at the checkout counter was one of her former 6th grade students.

Our collection to add to the many books we already have stashed here and there!

After a few hours rest we met up again. Susan took us to Griff's in Winchester Bay for a seafood supper. We even had a nice view of the bay.

I didn't take this picture; it came from Facebook!

Finally on the coast

We left Center Point a little after 10:00 a.m., headed for North Bend. More windy roads and hills, but so nice now that we are here. Fuel at Seven Feathers Casino--$5.34, filled up both tanks.

So nice to get to our RV Park at the Mill Casino, although we did not get a pull through spot and parking was tricky. It is so nice to finally cool off.

Susan and I worked together a few years at the beginning of our teaching careers, more years ago than we would like to think! We get together every summer that we are in the vicinity. She has a beautiful place and always creates wonderful, yummy meals.

Tonight we had turkey burgers with hummus, a delicious veggie pizza and apple dessert. Made plans for tomorrow--a bookstore and lunch to start.

Cary wants me to report that at 9:00 p.m., it is 62 degrees. Put a quilt on the bed!

Oregon at last, still hot!

About a five hour drive counting lunch and rest stops. Lots of hills. 103 degrees, lots of heat advisories across the northwest. It will be so nice to get to the coast tomorrow.

We were able to take a walk around 8 p.m. Glorious sunset!

Cool Morning in Patterson

It was wonderful to wake up to relatively cool weather, left the door open while eating breakfast and even felt like having more coffee.

Some smoke was visible along our route, could smell it at one of the rest stops.

We arrived in Corning at the Rolling Hills RV Park and Casino around 1:30. Warm, but not unbearable. Internet is spotty so I may not get back to the blog today. TV works fine. Maybe we will find Jeopardy again.

Lots of crepe myrtle in the park.

Patterson, California Kit Fox RV

Easy drive through Bakersfield, arrived here around 1:00 p.m. Not as hot as the last few days.

Cary was pleased to see this parked at the Coalinga rest stop. Unfortunately, no one asked him if he wanted to see inside!

There is a KFC very close to the park, so Cary was able to get his fix.

After supper we drove to Walmart to stock up on a few things. Now for some reading and resting.

Orange Grove RV Park

A relatively short drive to the campground outside Bakersfield. Unhooked the trailer, drove to get fuel and some more foil for the windows. It is now like a dungeon in here, but will definitely keep it cooler.

I am amazed I have internet here--a first! When we checked in we were told it was spotty.

Random pictures from the park:

Christmas all year round, I guess!

Cary found a Lee Child mystery and I left two books.

This tree still had one orange on it, was developing new leaves.

First travel days

Our first night was spent here, one of the only occupied rigs. It was 114 and our trailer was really suffering. We don't understand how anyone could take a shower--you could run the "cold" water all night and it would still scald you. And I am talking as a Tucson native! Luckily, sometime in the middle of the night, it did cool off enough for us to get some sleep. No TV or internet, so we read, actually falling asleep midafternoon for a much needed nap.

Cloudy the last few days, which made for good traveling.
The little refrigerator we bought right before the trip seemed to be extra hot on the back side, so we stopped at a Parker Walmart and returned it, got a thermal bag to use instead. We also bought an oscillating fan, which I am happy to report works quite nicely.
Fuel in Parker at Running Man was $5.24.

We are now in Newberry Springs, California. Still hot, but not as bad. I had a scare with my phone not working, but Sheila suggested I turn it off and then back on. I have done this before, but didn't think of it on my own. It works. And finally the internet in the park connected with my computer. The TV is not worth mentioning, so we watched a video.
If I can find pictures of where we are, it is our last stop before heading home in 2021.

I will try taking one in focus tomorrow!

More Prep

Mounting the bike rack

The new basement refrigerator

Of course, I have clothes for all types of weather (but we had better not run into any snow).

The sewing machine and cutting mat take up this corner of my closet. Fabric and notions are located in another cupboard, along with 15 or so microwave bowls ready to sell at the lighthouse.

I know there are stores where we are going, but since I already have a pretty good selection of food, I might as well take it along.

Where you see empty spaces, tomorrow morning they will also be filled. The freezer is loaded; more would be in the refrigerator, but I know that if I pack it too soon, I will be going back out to the trailer to get it for a snack or a meal.

After lunch and a lot of searching, he was able to locate the part he needed in order to mount it on the rack.

Getting Ready, Day 1

Naturally a lot of things had to be done since our last big trip, including getting the trailer brakes worked on. Cary pulled the trailer out this morning, is checking on a few things and has plans to wash it and the truck before we leave.

Tomorrow I will start adding a few things; I seem to already have a bunch of books piled up--priorities!
