Texas Transportation Museum, San Antonio

A relatively short drive from Fredericksburg to San Antonio and our campground at Braunig Lake, left us time to play tourist again. Rick found this museum listed in the AAA book and it sounded interesting. It was. And we are becoming reacquainted with humidity!
Two different kinds of rail cars were open for our viewing. One was one of 17 business cars operated by Santa Fe, allowing higher ranking railroad officials to conduct business on the move. It has three main bedrooms, a dining area, a kitchen and a room for the porter.
The McKeever passenger car built by Pullman is an old style sleeper car with 12 sections with upper and lower berths, one drawing room (with a couch and toilet) and a men's smoking room.  Air conditioning was added in 1935.
We would have loved to take a ride on this great train!

Dottie inspects the upper berth.
Cary is always interested in the engine.
A separate building housed some old automobiles and fire engine.
Model trains and appropriate buildings are also part of the museum.
At various times of the year people can hold parties on the grounds and there is a Santa's Railroad Wonderland. School groups are also welcome.

Back to the trailers for a cool drink and some rest. More tomorrow.
