We Made It!

After breakfast at the Econolodge we packed the car and headed for home. Lunch at a New Mexico rest stop (all the AZ rest stops are closed between Texas Canyon and New Mexico), which we had to eat in the car because of the cold wind. I did get out to snap a picture of some bright yellow poppies.

Once we got into Arizona we noticed a very long line of cars, backed up maybe two miles. I thought it was due to road construction, but it turns out there had been another dust storm (the fields have been plowed up and nothing is holding down the dirt). We heard on the news that twelve cars were involved, including an unoccupied police car, but luckily, there were no serious injuries. I am glad we  missed the dust storm, and that the backup was on the other side of the road!

Once we got into Tucson we saw this car on the back of a trailer--
We both wondered what it was and guessed a Roadrunner. It turns out that it was a Charger, designation Super Bee on both sides of the car near the front. Cute picture of a bumble bee too.
I am sure I have seen it at a car show or two.

We had a great time with family, now we have lots to do before the next much bigger sojourn!

Van Horn

No pictures.
Last night we had a big rain and wind storm, lots of thunder. Awoke to a beautiful blue sky and sunshine, no wind. Breakfast at the Econolodge--owner operated--the man there is very nice--and we were on our way.

Lunch in a parking lot, Walmart in Ft. Stockton for more lunchmeat and yogurt.

Checked into another Econolodge, nice room. No humidity!

Supper at the Van Horn Cattle Company--salmon for me and pulled pork for Cary.

It has been a wonderful trip, won't mind getting back to our own bed and kitchen (and lots of exercise)!

Fredericksburg

Our first stop (after breakfast at the motel) was Street Dreams, a very cool dealer of classic cars: http://www.streetdreamstexas.com/
Cary inspects a Studebaker

and a Corvette

From the back, the man here reminded us of Bernie Sanders!

We spent some time window shopping and people watching on Main Street.
These two ice chests caught our eye!

We had lunch at The Brewery--chicken fried steak for Cary and a chicken salad wrap for me. Yum!
As we were going back to the car, I made one more stop and came out with a new blouse. Pictures, maybe later!

So Long to The Woodlands

Thanks to Sheila for her wonderful hospitality (and for giving us her bed!) during our visit. It was really wonderful that the three siblings could get together here.

When we stopped for lunch there were some folks who had gotten a baby calf at an auction; He had been abandoned in a field. They were feeding him--trying to get him healthy!

Tonight we are at an Econoclad Motel in Fredericksburg--complete with fridge, a microwave--we will have breakfast here in the morning before doing some sightseeing in the area. We really enjoy this town!

Sunday

Sheila, Jean and I went to Spring, Texas, a cute town that is nearby. I never took any pictures; the rain started about two hours into our shopping, followed by the electricity going off in all the stores and restaurants!

We saved some money, still had a good time.

Saturday

A wonderful day to be outside! We took everything we need for a picnic lunch, enjoying the blue skies and fresh air.

Next stop was the museum. A special display of some very special automobiles. This is a Cord.
One of my favorites: a Scarab-only four of the original five remain in existence.

A Tatra, a Czech creation--Jean is investigating the interior.

I can't remember what this is called, but will ask Cary. Isn't it a work of art?

There were just 17 or 18 vehicles on display, but to admire and read about each one took quite a long time.
Peter took advantage of an open bedroom door to make himself at home in my suitcase! I think he had a good day too.

The Cousins Visit

Sheila invited two cousins on her mom's side of the family (who also live in Texas, outside of Dallas) to come see us when Cort and his wife and Cary and I were here also. After two days of rain and gray skies (not total, but close), we had an absolutely perfect one!

 The brothers did the grilling...
Cary and Gary catch up on the last several years

Cort's wife, Jean, gets acquainted with cousin Gwen

Sheila is sharing a photo of the cousins taken over 50 years ago!

Gwen and hubby Rick

Cort and Jean
Somewhere out there is a picture with me in it! But not on my camera.

We had brats, hamburgers (Sheila even bought salmon burgers for me), German potato salad, and fresh fruit. Sheila made at least three trips to the store before we got it all together!

Rain and Sunshine

Jean and Cary may be talking about gardens...

The day began with gray skies, rain--even thunder and lightning. When it stopped we were eager to get out. Sheila's neighborhood is great for walking.
Cort was planning supper--cashew chicken--so there were two runs to the grocery store to get the ingredients.

Chopping up chicken and veggies, putting the rice on to cook. Everything smelled and tasted delicious!
Relaxing after a long day

In a cozy living room. Hope it doesn't rain tomorrow.

Sights along the way to The Woodlands April 20

(I am a day behind in keeping up)

We arrived safely, no major difficulties (got off wrong somewhere, easily corrected course), actually arrived just as Sheila was driving up with Cort and Jean from the airport.

Fog this morning

Pretty sunrise!

The medians were filled with wild flowers.

A Texas tailpipe!

Almost the same spelling as yours, Pam!

Indian paintbrush

A bouquet of red, yellow, some bluebonnets and bright fuschia

I hope to get some family pictures soon!

We Made it to Van Horn

Pictures to follow. I left my cable at home, but Sheila has one I borrowed--!
Motel 6 where we stayed did not have wifi. I am never leaving up to my husband to make reservations again...he got a handicapped accessible room with a double bed. It was okay, but not great. No coffee either! We are so spoiled with our trailer.

Wonderful weather, the wind almost completely gone.

We tried a selfie with the state bird, a big roadrunner behind us--

Lunch at one of the rest stops, a wonderful view!

We had supper at K-Bob's, took a short walk down the highway, and after a nearly 9-hour drive to start the day, it was time to end it. Good night!
