Hyde Park, NY

No pictures of colored leaves today; there were many I could have photographed if it weren't raining and if the streets were wide enough to allow us to stop. So I took a photo of the pumpkin patch.
Before we could enter the road to the FDR library and family home, we had to wait for the geese to do their Abbey Road impression.

This is inside the gift store. Cary found a book he wanted on FDR's fireside speeches, but waited till we got back from the tour to purchase it--someone beat him to it and got the last copy. I hope I remember to check Amazon when I get done here.

Here I am with Franklin and Eleanor. We had a good walk just to get from this point to the start of the tour in the family home.

No pictures were allowed inside. I took this after the tour was over. Everything was pretty dark, fairly ornate, and just what you might expect of a wealthy family home of the time. FDR's mother, Sara, inherited over one million dollars at the beginning of the 1900s. This had been her home originally..

After that tour we wanted to see the FDR museum. I wish we had started here. By the time we got here, we were cold, a little wet, tired and sore. The damp weather has really affected Cary's sinuses too. But we gave it a shot.

We have toured the LBJ and Truman libraries and this one really deserved more than we gave it. Pictures were allowed if you shut off the flash.

FDR's office in his library. He was the first to establish a presidential library and the only to use his library.

This is his 1936 Ford convertible, customized so that he could drive it just by using his hands, since the polio he contracted at age 39 paralyzed his legs.

I tried to get a good picture of the special device by the steering wheel that would dispense lighted cigarettes!

This diner had actually been featured on that TV show, Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives! The lady at the gift store recommended it. Good choice!

The Vanderbilt Mansion belonged to Frederick, grandson of Cornelius. We did not take the tour.

On the way home (i.e., back to the trailer), we stopped at a cute quilt store that somehow didn't gets its picture taken! Once back here, Cary turned off the electricity so he could change out the bathroom light with one over the coffee pot in the kitchen. I held the flashlight and told him which wire went where, since he is color blind. It was successful; now we have to get some replacement lamps next time we get to a Camping World!
