I should rename this blog "Cars and more cars"

The water got turned back on in the park around 9:00 p.m., thankfully! We got a good night's sleep and were ready to start the trip home.Cary has always wanted to see this place in Quartzite, so we made a U-turn, and he took the camera.
Desert Gardens. An early 50s White Cabover Engine (COE) car hauler with a mid-50s Lincoln (and an airplane part on the roof)
Edsel wagon, '57 GMC pickup
Early 50s Hudson cruiser
'46 Hudson coupe
'63 Chrysler wagon
20s flatbed truck
late 40s Nash
late 40s Lincoln
3-wheeled motorcycle creation
'57 Chevy Cameo

There were so more car pictures, so maybe I will feel like adding them tomorrow. You never know.

It is good to be home, but we sure had a nice vacation.

Last two days on the road

Here is where we spent Saturday night, no wifi on the site, so I am posting this a day late. The manager told Cary this place had a big storm over the 4th of July weekend--6 inches on the roads! Very dry and dusty now though.

I really appreciate the wide open spaces of this area.

I got this shot of a couple of Ramblers going down the road on the back of the truck.

Beautiful mountains

This '32 Hi-boy passed us twice, but this is the only shot I got. It had a Montana license plate.

Cary said you could add your own caption to this picture!

In Ehrenberg by the Colorado River. HOT! And for the last few hours, due to someone's mistake here in the park, we have had no water. Ironic?

Oh, and this coincidence--when we got here, the lady at the desk told Cary they had his reservation...it was in the name of Lois Birenbaum...no connection to us at all. Cary didn't find out where she was going to be setting up and the office is now closed. I would love to find out more!

Four hours closer to home

I call this picture "Corning in the Morning," taken at the Heritage RV Park in Corning just before we left.

Cary gets his hot dog fix at the truck stop.

At another truck stop (Dunigan) he met this interesting couple--Christy and Michel--who travel is this interesting rig--

The couple perform stories "with live anvil accompaniment!" See more at their website:

http://www.gypsytimetravelers.com/ They gave Cary a business card when he went over to talk to them.

Tonight we are in Patterson again, went across the street for Mexican food.

Oops!

Pictures taken from a moving car are not all that wonderful... and when two cars are moving...even worse!

Since I forgot the other picture of the '40 Ford, I will also include the other picture I took of Lake Shasta.

Saying goodbye to cool temperatures...

Aren't the clouds beautiful?

My photos are a little out of order...not sure where I took this!

I do know that this was a fairly new rest stop, earlier in the day when it was still cool.

I love seeing mountains and clouds.

I spotted this '40 Ford while Cary was trying to figure out where the entrance was to get fuel at the Pilot.

Still breathtaking no matter how many times I have seen Mt. Shasta.

This is not the picture of Lake Shasta I meant to insert, but if you have ever tried to use blogspot, you know that unless you start over, the last picture you add goes on top. Maybe I will put it in tomorrow when I take a picture of our RV park.

We are in Corning, CA, at Heritage RV park, one of our Camp Club participants, so we are lucky to stay for under $15. And it is a nice park with pleasant managers. Cary took a two-hour nap after our 7+ hour drive to get here. Well-deserved!

Taking advantage of the cool, dry evening!

We took advantage of the cool, dry evening to enjoy another meal in our cozy little patio. I bought the vase and flowers at a thrift store in Crescent City, after seeing someone else earlier in the trip get one out for their dining alfresco! Then we took another stroll around the park. There are five HitchHiker 5th wheels here, a cute little Airstream (Bambi), a larger Airstream from Arizona, and all sorts of other motor homes, trailers and 5th wheels.

I liked the little chairs carved out of logs--not great for spending lots of time in though.

The clubhouse has a great room for potlucks and rallies, a billiards room where I took this picture, a library exchange, videos to check out (if you need to see something besides beautiful scenery), and, for my addiction, wifi!

Beautiful day!

It almost seemed a shame to leave Silverton, since this was the nicest day of our stay. The Silver Spur campground is very nice, good sites, cheap laundry, activities if you want them, Sunday breakfasts available, close to lots of things to do and not that expensive to stay.

This is where we are today--an RV park with a drive-in movie! It is called Hi-Way Haven, located in Sutherlin, Oregon, off I-5. We have wanted to stay here for several years and it finally worked out. They do not show the movies every night, which is okay, since by the time it gets dark, we are probably not awake!

I like the individual patios too; we had lunch outside and I hope we can eat supper here too. A lady in the campground said it had been raining here for several days also and I think I see clouds building up now.

In the office there is a quilt commemorating car shows that are held nearby--we missed this year's by a week or so.

More rain!

It rained quite a bit starting in early morning, continuing till almost noon. We went to get fuel when we had a chance, since we are heading to Sutherlin, Oregon, in the morning. On the way we stopped at this great market for some blackberries, rhubarb (hmm? not sure what I can do with it, given the ingredients I have on hand), and Rainier cherries.
Back to the trailer so Cary can rest up--he is not feeling 100% today, maybe all the dampness, so I am reading, returning emails and doing some more puzzles.

Chores and a last visit with friends in Salem

After taking care of some laundry and grocery shopping, Cary wanted to check out the vehicles for sale (the sign was on the road over the weekend, covered up but still there today).

A Willys

We went out for Mexican food with Mark and Ginger, but first Mark had to hide the humming bird food from one of the curious cats!

La Hacienda Real, great food, pretty decor. I think Cary is getting tired of getting his picture taken.

Ginger and I posed in front of her butterfly bush, just one of the many pretty flowers in her yard. See you next year, kid! And thanks for the cake--delicious!

Lots more rain, but we managed!

Cary and Sheila started the day slogging through the mud and rain to have a pancake breakfast down by the office at the RV park. We watched a movie till lunch time, then decided we might as well head to the airport in Portland, by way of a few stops. First, the Woodburn Company Stores, which got Sheila and me singing "Sixteen Tons." Cary got a deal on two pairs of shoes at the Rockport store, even came home with three pairs of black socks that somehow made the deal cheaper.

Then he went to the Chocolate Factory where Sheila and I had already been. Frankly, the chocolate was a disappointment--too waxy! My opinion only.

Sheila then decided she would look at shoes and was thrilled to find some that were just right. After Cary told her she qualified for the AARP discount, she went back and got the price adjusted! A true Birenbaum!

We left her at the airport about six hours before her flight was due to take off (which should be just about now as I finish the daily report). We had a great time together!

Have a good flight, sis!
