Saturday and Sunday in New Mexico

Las Cruces continues to be one of our favorite destinations. When we first drove through about 20 years ago, it reminded us of Tucson in the 1950s. Unfortunately, just as Tucson has done, it has grown. But there is still some great architecture and Mexican restaurants.

Saturday morning we went to a few yard sales.

This great 1955 Chevy station wagon was across the street from one of the sales.

Las Cruces has a terrific farmer's market, but I didn't take any pictures except of this pretty pickup truck.

This is all I bought: fabric, two mysteries and a handful of okra and tomatoes!

White Sands on the way to Alamogrodo.

The museum at White Sands. The only time we stopped was with the kids many years ago, but the water was out, so we couldn't take the tour. At least that is how I remember it!

Our friend Wally with the bike he built and has taken to Bonneville many times. He plans to go till he breaks 200.

Cary got great pictures of the balloons, but I didn't install the software for his camera on this laptop

Across the street from our lunch spot in Vaughn, NM, Sunday.

We saw lots of cycles. Cary asked these folks what was going on. They had been to a rally in Ruidoso.

We couldn't tell what this was being used for now. It still had an old calendar, clock and other things, but since it hadn't been vandalized, we assume someone is watching over it. You can see our truck and trailer in the reflection.

On Route 66 in Tucumcari...

Cary admired this 1951 Pontiac Catalina. The new owners of the Blue Swallow Motel brought this and the 1966 Bonneville from Michigan. They lost their jobs in MI, knew they had to move and din't want to work for anyone else...I hope they make a go of it. The motel is so cool!

Inside one of the garages. I think the swallow actually lights up at night.

I had to set the camera on a big trash receptacle then quickly run over to the mural so we could both be in the picture.
