From Tonopah

When I took this picture I thought it was unique--but I thought there was a pretty good chance that someone else had taken a picture of it and posted it online, so I checked. Ha! Not only is this not unique, there are oodles of them out there! The first one I clicked on turned out to be on someone else's blog, taken in 2012, as she was driving through Tucson on 4th Avenue! Oh, well. It was new to me. I would like to see inside.

Construction on I-15 going into San Bernandino took us 60 minutes to go 30 miles. I almost preferred going up the hill this way--slowly-it forced everyone to slow down!

We pulled into Chiraco Summit for lunch and while I was preparing Cary's sandwich, he found this car museum (to be) and took pictures. So it is his turn to write about what he saw.

This old gas station, built in 1955, had a sign in front calling it the classic car museum. You know me, I had to check it out. The office was filled with signs, pictures, mags, and manuals. The bay had a '40's Cadillac, and period correct tools. Behind this they had put up a gigantic steel bulding that will become the new museum. A young man named Victor showed me around and answered all my questions. He grew up here, went to high school 27 miles away in Indio, and lives in the trailer park behind the museum.

We made it to Tonapah, Arizona and the Saddle Mountain RV Park. Home in Tucson tomorrow.

We Made It Out Of Town!

!
We are thrilled with the service we received at the Red Bluff Dodge dealer. Noe' Madrigal, the guy we dealt with, even took pictures of the faulty part and emailed them to us. He took the time to deal with Jim Click Dodge, who  eventually agreed to pay for our costs today--we are still in shock!

About 1:00 we were able to leave Corning, made it to Patterson and the Kit Fox RV Park around 5. Of course, since I planned to be home tomorrow, we were out of some staples and had to make a Walmart run. Cary passed on the KFC and bought fried chicken at Walmart instead, along with their potato salad.

I sure hope he gets a better night's sleep tonight. We hope to be home Friday so we can get to Kaila's 2nd birthday party on Saturday

Our Stay in Corning

We made the best of it our first night here at Rolling Hills Casino RV Park, ate at the buffet.

Sat around all day Sunday, reading and doing some housework. I thought this would be the perfect time to cut out all the little shapes I need for the purse I plan to make--bought the fabric in Brookings--but couldn't find the pattern (I really hope it is back in Tucson and not just buried somewhere deeper in the trailer).

We are quite frustrated with our Good Sam Roadside Assistance. They paid for us to go to the nearest truck repair facility, two and one half miles away--a Ford dealer. We called to verify and sure enough, they do not have Dodge parts, so we had to pay $100 to have L and T towing take us to the Dodge dealer in Red Bluff, the difference in mileage between the 2.5 miles and the Dodge dealer. Ugh. Makes no sense. Strangely enough, the tow truck came from a town 25 miles from where we are!

Oh, do you notice the silver duct tape decorating the back of the truck?

Of course when we got to the dealer, there was no part available; one had to be ordered from Portland. A call to Jim Click in Tucson wass more frustration; it was determined the whole piece was installed incorrectly there. Again, no one wants to take the responsibility!
We hitched a ride with Shawn in the courtesy PT Cruiser, will get another ride back in the morning. We sure hope to be in Patterson tomorrow night.

Stranded!

(picture taken from the casino website)
Yet another event to add to our list of interesting experiences on this trip. We pulled into this casino RV park, Rolling Hills, near Corning, California, to discover the transmission seal on the truck ("fixed" on June 14, 2014) had come off and transmission fluid was-well, it wasn't!

We got a number of a Chevy dealer, who gave us info for the nearest Dodge dealer (Red Bluff), not open for service till Monday, but who did set up an appointment. Then we gave Good Sam a call, punched in the info on the phone then gave it to two people who apparently couldn't read the form in front of them and didn't appreciate how hot it was in the trailer, but did finally give us appointment for a tow at 9:00 a.m. Monday morning.

Pictures will follow eventually!

I guess there are worse places to be stranded. There is a buffet at the casino. We don't gamble, and I have to do my wifi here at the club house/office. Haven't checked TV yet. And we do have our fingers crossed that the repairs can be done in one day!

Bridgeview RV Park near Grants Pass

This is a beautiful park on the Rogue River. A guy was out here fly fishing but I didn't know if he would approve of my taking his picture.
There were ripe pears on this tree--I hated to leave them there, but too many onlookers kept me from pulling them off!

We unhooked the truck, took it into town for fuel and some groceries. We are a little exhausted still from yesterday, I think! I can only imagine how tired Ginger and Mark must be!

Salem

I got a kick out of this truck next to the RV Park/Marina as we were leaving Newport on a foggy Tuesday morning!

Our view going over the bridge--about 7:15 a.m. or so
Thursday, our last day in the Salem area we helped our friends Ginger and Mark get ready for their yard sale. In between leaving Newport and taking this picture we visited a few thrift stores and ate out way too many times! Luckily the heat wave Salem was having before we got here seemed to take a little break. It was really quite pleasant.
Thursday evening we went to the Olive Garden for supper--got there ahead of the crowd and had another very nice meal. I hope the Blums have a successful sale and never have to do this again!
When we got back to the trailer I discovered I had sold two patterns in my Etsy shop--making a total of five items sold while on the road--not too bad, all things considered. I can actually mail them from Grants Pass tomorrow when we unhook to do some other things.

Newport

Last night while we waited for the full moon (which we never saw, due to the thick cloud cover), I shot this beautiful sunset.

We tried to get the bridge in the background this morning--but it barely shows up! We came down to Old Town Newport after a nice breakfast out at Georgie's.

I found a book for Cary (his birthday is just a month away) and one for myself. It has been at least two days since I bought a book (I think).

We came back to the trailer, ready to settle down, maybe do some laundry and, in my case, have some lunch, when we heard a loud THWUMP!

Cary ran out to see that our truck had been hit!

A guy driving a truck with a 5th wheel was trying to park in the space across the way from us and didn't exactly figure how much space he needed! The back of his 5th wheel hit our truck.
You can see where he hit us if you look at the right rear corner. Not fun. But he gave us all his info and we called our insurance company with it. I hope he is a lot more careful on the rest of his trip. And we know one more thing on our list of things to do when we return to Tucson. Ugh.

Still in Florence

It is usually very windy in Florence--Thursday was no exception, so we spent the morning going to thrift stores and came across this Nomad parked in Old Town. We came home with a few treasures too!

It had been quite awhile since we prowled the antique stores on the highway, so we decided it was time. Nothing we had to have, but everything was very interesting.

Friday and Saturday were good yard sale days, both relatively wind-free all morning. We did wake up to fog on Saturday, but it didn't last.
This used to be Bliss Hot Rod Restaurant, with old cars on the roof and even a car or two you could sit in inside when you ate! Someone told Cary the cars were taken away in the night. Another restaurant is coming in: Ichiban is moving from down the street.

We had been seeing MGs driving around ever since we got to town. Cary finally was able to talk to one driver who told us there was a show. Very nice. Even a great old Jaguar and two Austin Healeys.

Cary had to investigate this little Landrover truck in the parking lot next to the car show. Cute.

Our next stop was Mo's where we bought a quart of clam chowder base, which we took back to the trailer to mix with milk and have for lunch. There is enough for tomorrow too. Yum!

Florence, Oregon

We are staying at the Port of Siuslaw RV Park, so everything is within walking distance. Lunch at Mo's and the clam chowder was delicious as usual.

We could not believe how wonderful the weather was--no wind until much later in the evening, so were able to take a nice walk after supper.

Thrift Stores Around Town and One More Lunch Out

We wore ourselves out making the rounds of our favorite thrift stores, pausing long enough for lunch at Sharkbites, a cute little restaurant in Coos Bay. No pictures. I hope I can post this before the Wifi goes down yet again.

Cranky Internet Service!

We drove down to Charleston for a seafood lunch and a little shopping. Cary missed the important part of the sign in this picture--the name of the shop is "Wild Women of Chareleston." But he did get the important women in the picture!

Cary spotted this unusual RV while we were shopping and agreed to do the write up for me--I did go back and add capitall letters where appropriate!
A motor home on steroids. I was sitting in front of a store when this guy pulls in. He disappears into a bar and grill. I went in, found him and asked about this rig. He custom designed it; it was one of the last built by some guy 4 hours north of Denver. The box rides on air suspension so it will flex when he is climbing Mt Rainier. Notice how high above ground the camper door is. A step ladder slides out from under the door. It is totally self contained like any other motor home. He was waiting for his vittles and brew, so I didn't get to go inside it.

Susan took us to Bandon on Monday where we ate lunch and shopped. I found some books at a used book store, and Susan found a super duper frying pan at this kitchen store. Believe it or not I passed on going to the fabric store...I don't think I have a fever!

A Visit With Susan and an Antique Fair

On the drive to North Bend, we needed to stop so Cary could go into the trailer for his spare pair of sunglasses; the lens had fallen out of the others. Somehow he was able to save the screw and we repaired them later. But I was glad to capture this beautiful view looking south.
I always like to see what new things Susan has created or found for her garden--isn't this bundt pan planter amazing? She has beautiful flowers every year.

Cary brought her a milking can and she gave him two oil cans, what a deal! She will put plants in the milking can. I guess his oil can will go into the garage.

Here we are among the flowers!

Susan invited us for supper: salmon, a pumpkin and salmon quiche, kale chips and three kinds of berries with greek yogurt for dessert--yummy! We were served on a vintage linen table cloth, and sat on chairs she found at a thrift shop and recovered herself. Cute kitties on the fabric!

We always feel as though we have been to a wild animal park after our visit here. Deer, turkeys, blue jays, squirrels, chipmunks and finches are frequent visitors (despite the things she does to chase some of them away)!
Early the next morning (very early) we got up and started on our way to an antique fair in Brownsville, about a three-hour drive away! Susan picked up her friend Bobbi (not sure if I have the spelling...) in Eugene and met us there. What a wonderful place. I got a few little things, including a well-marked salt and pepper shaker for Cary who frequently can't remember which is which at our house!

It is really impossible to get the full picture of how many vendors turn out for this event, but I am sure I didn't see it all.

Cary managed to tear himself away from the antiques to wander over to the car show nearby.

 This was pretty cute too!
We found a place to have lunch in a nearby town and thought we could drive straight home from there
but a few yard sales, a thrift store, a car lot...

another herd of elk

and this beauty for sale in Reedsport delayed our return trip by just a little bit. Cary is now dozing on the sofa.
