Eureka

Only one of these pictures was actually taken in Eureka. First I finally managed to take some photos of the newest camping option in Village Camper Inn. They call it a yurt, but that would give most people a whole different idea...this is a tiny cabin with a bunk beds and some floor space, blinds and some electric outlets and lights. I wish I had taken pictures as it was built!

A few nights ago a family of five slept there for the first time that it was used. Mom, Dad, probably Grandma and two cute little girls, ages 2 and 4.

We left Eureka around 9:45 a.m. You have to always expect construction on Highway 101 during the relatively dry summer months--working to repair parts of the road that wash away or have suffered other serious damage.

Gorgeous views

Vibrant green against the vivid blue sky

We are so happy to see blue skies!

I am not sure if these are raspberries or blackberries--too far off the road to pick!

This is the picture I took in Eureka--Bunny Hop Quilts--new in this location, new to me. I also shopped at Ocean Waves Quilts while Cary checked out the Subaru dealer.

After supper at the Sizzler, we took a walk around the park--two more pictures:
This is where we are staying.

Flowers the colors of autumn!

Monday, Monday

Our last day at work this year--beautiful scenery as we walked up to the lighthouse.

Finally! We were able to corral Ken and Barbie and their son, Dan, to get our group picture taken. We will be working with them again next August--what a team!

Sunday, Continued

Before we left for work this afternoon (hours were 2:30-4:00) I wanted a picture of the blue sky, just in case I didn't see it the rest of the day!

This is a Carriage (brand) 5th wheel, owned for over nine years. It has to be one of a kind with that paint job! Yes, it came that way. Carriage, like HitchHiker, has been out of business for quite some time.

Taken as we leave the lighthouse around 4:30

This was the first day that we were able to spot the St. George Reef Lighthouse!

Flowers on a drizzly morning

More rain during the night. I couldn't pass up these beautiful flowers in the garden of one of the RVers--gently touched with rain drops.

This one reminded Cary of a gear shift knob like the ones on hotrods in the 1950s! So romantic....

Since yellow is my favorite color, I took two pictures of this one. The raindrops really show up well.

Another Day Off

We hoped for some blue skies, but it actually rained--either during the night or early morning! However, that did not stop us from heading out to the yard sales.

The guy who has this 1952 Cadillac in his garage had lots of items the Pickers (from TV) might be interested in! What a shame that this and the car in the following picture are just sitting here, not driven.

A 1935 Plymouth coupe, his brother's car, has been stored here 15 years!

For Sheila, this hen had escaped her coop. The family cat kept its distance--the hen picks on it!

Around the corner from the hen, was the old movie theater, due to be demolished for a storage facility. I took a picture of it one of the other times we were here.

The redwoods are gorgeous, one of our favorite things about this part of the country. We drove this narrow road to another yard sale. Shown below.

We managed to limit our total expenditure to $3.75. I found some fabric and a sweatshirt. Cary spent a quarter on a magazine celebrating 100 years of Walgreen's, mainly for the pictures of the old cars!

Next was the farmers' market where, I believe, one of the rare times that Cary passed up any of the treats at the bakery truck. We were teased with a patch of blue sky and sunshine, but clouds and cold ruled the day.

Friday--Yard Sales and Lunch

I cannot believe how cool and cloudy this month has been. Today was no exception. I realize I will be wishing for these temperatures in a very short time (we expect to be home in a week), but it is still cold!
We started with some yard sales in Crescent City, nothing good. One lady was clearing out because she was moving back to Arizona--Page--apparently there is a teacher shortage there.

We headed to Brookings and found two sales. The area is known as the Banana Belt for its usually warmer than other coastal town temperatures--not today though!

This was the second one--an estate sale. Cary bought a mug and I found three patterns. Cheap thrills!

To get to the first sale we had to cross this wooden bridge! It is about 20 feet above the river. I took this on our way out.

The trees were yellow on top, hard to see in the photo.

Back at the trailer I cut out 11 strips of fabric, 6" x 42" with the hope that one day I will actually cut out all the squares for the crescent shapes that I need to start sewing on a purse pattern I have had a few years!

We are off again tomorrow: Farmers' Market, a few yard sales and probably Walmart. I am hoping for sunshine!

We had lunch at Pancho's, went to the quilt store (they had a nice chair, an electric fireplace and some magazines for Cary), Fred Myers for fuel. By the time we got home, the sun still was playing peek-a-boo with us.

Thursday

I tried putting these two pictures side by side so that you could see just why I thought the first young man, Jacob, strongly resembled my son Tim. Jacob and a friend were touring the lighthouse and agreed to let me take his picture.

Since I had run downstairs to get my camera, I decided to take a few pictures out of the bedroom windows before my next group came up.

The fog had lifted a little by the time we walked back to the parking lot. Our hours today were just 11:00-1:00. Tomorrow and Saturday it will be closed, open on Sunday 2:00-4:00, 3:00-4:00 on Monday. We will head to Eureka Tuesday for a few days before descending into the heat after that. The month has gone quickly!

It is not warming up!

Before time to go to work I took a walk around part of the park. Lots of black birds (crows?) eating fruit.

Lots of fog still

Walking from the parking lot, you can see that by 9:30 a.m. the fog was not showing any signs of lifting soon.

 I caught the light flashing.

This is after work around noon on Tuesday.

Wednesday morning the sun peeked out and gave us hope for afternoon blue skies. It may have lasted 30 minutes!

We haven't had to turn on the heater after work before, but have done it the last two days. Cary just reported it is 56 degrees at 6:11 p.m. Wednesday. I am skipping my evening walk.

As a side note, The Pickers are near Crescent City! On TV, not sure when it was filmed. They just bought a Trees of Mystery roadside sign. I hope Susan is watching too!
