More Newport

Cary has been thinking of Georgies ever since we planned the trip. So the day started here with breakfast.

There are two lighthouses in the area that we all wanted to see, so we headed to Yaquina Bay Lighthouse first.
What a great view of the bridge from here!

Since we had toured it five years ago and it wouldn't be open for a few more hours (and Donna and Skip were spoiled after touring Battery Point...), we just admired the views.

This can be seen from the visitor's center at the Yaquina Head Lighthouse. Luckily Skip was driving. It was free to us with his Golden Eagle card. Cary has one too, but didn't have it with him. The center and lighthouse are well worth the price of admission, however.

Seals sunning themselves
Murres (those black specks are birds)
Cary, Skip and Donna all take turns with the binoculars checking out the birds and the seals. The docent here had a very large scope set up to get a real close view of the seals.

The Yaquina Head Lighthouse has a first order Fresnel lens, is the tallest lighthouse on the Oregon coast.
There are over 100 steps to the top. Cary and climbed them in 2008; because the next tour was much later than when we would be there, we decided not to do it again.

I found a book here I wanted at this great little book store, but they didn't take Discover cards, and I only had $2 in cash! The very nice owner wrote down the name for me and I will try to find it in a small locally owned bookshop somewhere else. I do order from Amazon, and I love finding mysteries at yard sales, but what would we do without these great little bookstores?
