Tuesday and Wednesday

Tuesday was a beautiful day. Blue sky, sunshine and perfect temperatures. This is a view of the harbor as we drove across the Yaquina Bay Bridge. Later we walked over to an antique store near the RV park. Nothing we needed though!

We went to Georgie's for a seafood supper. I got some yummy halibut tacos with a mango salsa Cary got fish and chips. The fish was breaded in panko, something different.

I didn't have anyone to take our pictures outside the restaurant, so this is two pictures that I photostitched. We usually pose closer together!

Wednesday was cloudy (foggy?) all day and cool.

We tried a selfie! We went down to the harbor (Cary calls it down town, not sure exactly what it calls itself) for more of Mo's clam chowder and to play tourist. Our first stop was a bookstore where I bought The Bad-Ass Librarians of Timbuktu (how could I pass that up?) and How to Bake Pi (the symbol for pi was on the cover). I am not a math person at all but it looked really interesting.

We walked out on a deck to see the boats.

The Pacific Ram

I took this about 2:30 when we headed out for the third time today! We really expected the weather in Newport to be like this the whole time we were here, so yesterday was a nice surprise. Not complaining! Looking forward to another whole day tomorrow.

Newport

When we checked in the Marina RV park Monday afternoon we spotted a 5th wheel with the same paint as ours. Sure enough, it was also a Hitchhiker, Champagne edition. We went over to see it but no one was home.

We did get back over on Tuesday and caught them there. Chatted for several minutes. Theirs is a year newer than ours, had it customized at the factory in Kansas.

I am now at the Newport, Oregon library using my computer. No internet at the Marina. TV pretty spotty also. Lovely day today, so I want to be out enjoying it anyway. We will probably be back tomorrow!

One More Thing

I forgot to mention this a few days ago. While browsing in one of shops in Old Town Florence, we both were looking at the silly magnets on display. Cary was on one side of the display and I was on the other. At the same time we each grabbed a magnet to show the other--and this was it!
I think we know each other!

Memory Test

One of the four or five yard sales we checked out on Friday and Saturday. I found another book, passed up a jar of buttons (!), and decided on two pieces of fabric--I could have had the whole box for $1, but even I have my limits.

This was taken about 7:30 when we got up. Brrr. But it warmed up nicely until the afternoon winds blew in! Blue sky though.

We are still in Florence but had to change RV parks since I hadn't gotten reservations early enough. Pacific Pines is close to Fred Meyer's, so that is nice. Cary got propane there on Sunday. The mural above is pictured on the side of the office at the park.

Lots of Duck fans here! The previous owners of the RV park own this cutie! It would be a hoot to have one painted red and blue with Wildcat pictures for tailgate parties!

This is in our park, really slick. Yesterday we went to a trailer sales place to look at one of the Vintage brand (retro) trailers. I didn't take a picture, but found one on the Internet.

Very cute, and I probably could manage if we just took it for a long weekend somewhere.
This is the smaller of the two we saw.

This is our spot in the park. Tomorrow we head to Newport.

Thursday, August 23

We stopped at the library so Cary could check out tomorrow's yard sales. I browsed the books for sale and found two really interesting sounding ones, along with three car magazines. American Road and The Motel in America.

Yesterday and today I picked blackberries.

This batch I froze for later.

Cary needed me to do some laundry, I guess. He washed out these extra-warm socks because it has been chilly the last two days.

But, surprise--the sun came out after supper!

I left lots of berries on the bushes. Someone else can take a turn.

This little guy seemed to be posing for me. Nice end to the day.
One more picture--since we have hardly seen sky at night for the last five weeks, I got excited about the moon!
Good night

Road Ready Again

While waiting for Jack, the welder, to arrive, I did a little walking. Foggy and cool morning.

This guy was incredible--hope we never need him again, but if we did, I would not hesitate at all!
Getting his stuff ready

Checking things out. Hydraulic leveling jacks were used to raise the rear axle so that the tire could be removed to access the problem area. Whew!

Cary is pointing at the broken off ear of the spring hanger. The piece is hanging down with the bolt through it. It is supposed to be upright and welded to the bar just above the chain he is pointing out.

Jack was down there putting on the new piece.

He is a 70-year-old, old school welder. He has been doing this for 50 years He laid down some beautiful beads. When I wrote the check, I said this really is a decent price for mobile work that took 2 hours. He said I could charge you a lot more due to your situation, but I have to be able to live with myself.

After lunch we hit all the thrift stores. I found a pair of capris, a shirt, a pattern and another small food chopper. Happy!

The view from where we parked for the Humane Society thrift store. This bridge is so impressive.

New Town, New Snafu!

Cary changed the batteries in the trailer this morning before we left North Bend. It did involve a trip to Walmart for the batteries and two other trips to an RV shop (or some shop), but we were underway by 11:30.

When we pulled over to check in at our RV park in Florence a guy stopped to talk to Cary. He had been following us for enough miles to notice the trailer was, as he put it, "dog walking." You know how when you pass someone walking a dog, the dog always pulls away from the walker and toward you? Sort of at an angle. Well, that is how the trailer looked.

They got down and checked underneath. The two trailer tires were rubbing together on the driver's side because the spring hanger for the rear suspension had broken! We were lucky to not have any major damage, but we couldn't risk driving it anywhere for a repair. Dave, the helpful local, looked up a welding shop for us and sent us (without the trailer) to see what we could find out. They could not get to it so we were sent to another welding shop where Jack, the owner, was called away to see what he could do. He followed us to the park, checked it out and will be back tomorrow with a part and tools. Whew!

This is how Walmart looked at 8:30 this morning--some of it is smoke from a Washington fire!

Our HitchHiker at the RV park in Florence. It is the middle trailer; Cary's truck is parked nose in.

I walked over the little hill to get a few pictures. Smoke is definitely in the air here too.

For supper we walked over to Mo's and bought some clam chowder base which I heated with a cup of milk for some very yummy eating. We won't get out to do tourist stuff until we know the trailer is fixed and we can relax.

Around Town

First stop was the fabric store. I would like to find more material with a lighthouse print. So I was able to save my money for another day! I like the cute apron hanging next to me...an idea?

Here is where we had lunch, The Boat, for more fish and chips. Cary is wearing the new hat he bought this morning in a town called Charleston. He looks so good in hats! Of course, I am very prejudiced.

The waitress came out to say our food would be coming shortly--it was a great day to be outside if we had a delay in eating. We asked her to take our picture. She grew up in Carson City where my sister and her kids lived at the same time.

We called it day early so we could rest up before our next meal!
Another picture from the internet. We had the Tex-Mex buffet and will have to stay up till midnight to digest our food! Very good.

Bandon and Susan's

After breakfast I went out for a walk while the weather was agreeable and before heading to Bandon.

We met Susan at the Fred Meyer parking lot, put our stuff in the VW trunk and headed for Bandon, one of our favorite stops.

I really wanted to walk on the beach so that was our first stop.

These are the stairs we descended (and later, ascended)!

It looks colder than it was. Beautiful weather!

Susan walked toward the caves.

Of course we had to get some people pictures!

Face Rock. There is a legend that goes with it so I Googled it and you can read it here:  http://thebandonguide.com/the-legend-of-face-rock/

Next up was lunch at the Chowder House. I forgot pictures while we were there, but found a few on the internet!
We ate outside at one of the benches and were lucky enough to get there before a huge crowd poured in. Susan had salmon fish and chips and I had a salmon sandwich. Cary got fish and chips and we all felt overfed!

The fish is an example of some local artwork done with items salvaged from the ocean!

After naps, we went back to Susan's. We played Perquackey! She had played it several years ago and was glad to see it again.

These are her flowers that the deer don't eat! made from hoes and bundt pans!

There are apple trees all over the property. I gathered two to try.

On her back porch is the lovely metal box with cheerful yellow and orange pansies. Her whole yard and house are visual delights!
She fixed supper for us again: veggie burgers, fresh green beans, more of the orange jello salad and some (ha ha) low cal ice cream bars for dessert!

Home Sweet Home
