Foggy Day

Most of the day looked like this.

We did some walking, looked at the crafts at the farmers' market, talked to a guy charging his Tesla (very cute dog--at 50 pounds, only a third of his weight...a Burmese Mountain Dog)--

also a picture from the internet

Lazy most of the rest of the day!

Lunch with friends

A picture from 2010 showing our lunch companions of today! I didn't take pictures in the restaurant so this one from when we worked together in the lighthouse that July. Jane and Harlan are great. I just noticed I was wearing the same shirt today as then!

They had their adorable miniature poodle, Ginger, with them. I wish I had taken a picture, but I found one online that is close:

After lunch we stopped at the Dollar Tree; I needed to mail something to my son and didn't have an envelope!
A beautiful day.

Monday another pretty day

Yesterday on the Sunday morning show there was a story about these circles in the sand in Bandon, Oregon, and the man who did them. Five years ago we were there, participating! The pictures are from 2019.

Cary watched from the parking lot while my friend, Susan, and I walked the circles. I'm the one on the right in the turquoise jacket.

After lunch we took a drive through the redwoods, a narrow, winding dirt road. Lots of people with the same idea.

July 28

I added to yesterday's blog.

While we watched the Sunday Morning show, I did two loads of laundry. Here I am using our dining room table as an ironing board to press Cary's jeans! I bought the iron last week; there is a small ironing board in a closet here, but that wouldn't ahve worked.

We then went down to the beach by the lighthouse to collect a little driftwood and just enjoy being out. It was great for people watching too.

On the way back to the apartment we saw the Bowlus trailer again; the owners had stopped at the Tesla charging station. They were in a hurry, but Cary managed to find out they lived in LA (California) and the trailers are made in Oxnard. Theirs was a 2017.

Lunch at the Good Harvest restaurant next door. Naps. A perfect day.

Tired

 Waiting till tomorrow

Another night of not sleeping well, but we managed to stay pretty busy all day--a few yard sales, a stop at Walmart and a drive to look at the water and parts of town we hadn't seen for awhile.

Read all about the Bowlus trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fwffrj9p12I (you will have to copy and paste this link into the search engine bar)
Lots of people were doing what we did--pull into the parking lot to see this being pulled by a Tesla!

Chilly Friday

Another night of not sleeping well--I even got up at 3:00 to read for awhile. At 5:30 I was awakened by the neighbors upstairs tromping back and forth across the floor, apparently getting ready to head out. I did not go back to sleep when they were done. We got up before 7, both done sleeping, had breakfast, showered and headed to an estate sale. Of course, we found a few things.

There were six sewing machines, maybe seven, and hundreds and hundreds of buttons, zippers, embroidery threads, and some pretty dressy fabric--I left it all.

We made arrangements with our friend Dottie (the one who originally hired us to work at the lighthouse in 2008) to meet for supper at CC Diner. It was great seeing her and catching up. I told her I would spare her taking a picture! But I did copy this one from the internet. Cute place.

We took a very short walk--chilly wind! And...we have new upstairs neighbors...hope they are quiet in the morning!

More Beach

After going back to bed for another hour of sleep (I did not sleep well), we headed to a beach for some more walking.

Two people were out surfing. We could hear the seals on the rock beyond. Clam chowder was calling our name so we headed home for lunch.

I wanted to collect some driftwood, and see the lighthouse, so this was our next stop. We had only been out a little while before I was notified that the man was here who would be adding another slat to our bed, so we came back. It was necessary after removing the innerspring mattress last week.

Because the sheets were off the bed, I decided it would be a good day to wash. I do not look forward to maneuvering the thick mattress to make it again!

How could I forget that before we did anything at the beach, we found the fabric store I discovered two years ago when I was here--By My Hand. Lori, the owner, remembered seeing me then. She lived in Tucson on the far east side, remembered we lived in the Northwest. I bought two fat quarters for making microwave bowls.

Books

After a late breakfast (we were lucky enough to finally sleep in), we went over to Sylvia's. She has a little of everything and a whole lot of books. I found one for Cary by Doris Kearns Goodwin. I plan to return another day to look some more. These pictures show just the large room of her shop; there are three others, one more with many books and some furniture.

We got in some walks and reading, also watched some politics, with another bowl of ice cream and berries. It has been a beautiful day.

Brookings

Brookings was going to be our destination for Friday, decided to go today. We enjoy looking for treasures in thrift stores (Cary didn't pack a shoe horn). He did find a book.

Pancho's is a great Mexican restaurant there. I tried their grilled fish tacos for the first time, made with red snapper and very tasty. Cary got carnitas enchilada and taco. The beans are delicious too.

For supper, instead of my planned leftovers, we went to Safeway for vanilla ice cream to go with the berries Bella gave us yesterday. Yum!

Chilly Monday

Breakfast at The Good Harvest restaurant next to our apartment. A nice change. Cary enjoyed California eggs benedict; I got French toast and fruit.

We are both waiting on prescriptions to be filled; Cary called our insurance and his doctor's office and hope for the best. I am not sure what is going on with mine--I called last week.

Bella, the housekeeper has been all morning cleaning the apartment next to ours and checking the upstairs (the noisy ones left yesterday). When she was done she brought over a dish of berries--I assumed blackberries, but they may be marion berries. Yum!

Interesting development tonight: a woman checked into the apartment next door a few hours ago, then apparently left. Just a few minutes ago two guys and two kids came to check in to the same apartment! The one guy called or texted. I told him what I knew. I hope the matter is settled soon. Even the upstairs is occupied now.

A short walk this afternoon, hope to make up for it tomorrow.

Sunday

We were pleased to see the Sunday Morning show; finding programs is quite the challenge. But we are not here for TV.

After breakfast we took a walk on Anchor Beach, not our favorite for walking, but we tried.
                                                 The view from that beach

I took a nap after lunch, then we took another walk down by the pier. Our next door neighbors are new; they returned from their days adventures, so we sat and chatted on the porch for quite awhile. I took a look around their apartment--it is fancier than ours. But I am quite happy...slept on the new bed arrangement, and I am not sure if it is better--it certainly is lower, so that is nice.

Tina and Tony, this picture is for you. It is the lighthouse, looks a lot like a little house, because it is. The front door looks green, the roof is red. There are two chimneys and a light tower on the roof. Some people are approaching the door. The path leading up to it is in the foreground. See what your app has to say in its description! I took this two years ago.

Second Saturday

Saturday means yard sales! We found a few: I got a lamp that I am hoping will give me enough light to read at night. Cary found a replacement bag for one that he really likes (Route 66 theme), but is falling apart.

We needed to get home because guys were coming to replace our bed! As it turns out, they were able to just remove the thick innersprings which lowered our bed a foot. Next week they will be back to add another slat or two for stability.
The farmers' market/craft fair that used to be in the fairgrounds is now at the harbor. I did notice a few vendors at the fairgrounds, so not sure what that means!

A view of the lighthouse from the harbor--you might have to squint to see it!

Fun With Our Neighbors

Great day! Martin wanted to walk on the beach (of course), and we were ready. At 10:00 we headed back to Enderts Beach where we walked an hour, collecting some driftwood and sand dollars.

It was so foggy we had a hard time finding our way back to the parking lot!

By then we were all ready for lunch. They had never been to the Chart Room, and we were lucky enough to get there just when it was opening. Peggy hoped to see more sea lions, but there were just two. Great food, as usual.

Cary took them on a scenic drive ending up at St. George Reef for some great views and perfect weather. They could even see St. George Reef Lighthouse.

Back to our respective homes-away-from-homes for naps!

Thursday, our 7th day already

We were in no hurry to start the day, but noisy kids upstairs gave us an early wakeup (me, not Cary, of course)! They were gone all morning and are back now, starting an hour ago. You would think even the parents would be worn out from the running around--occasionally even our dishes rattle!

Cary spoke to the guy with whom we have been communicating since deciding this vacation rental was the way to go--Alex. He told Cary that they were expecting another bed--maybe one designed for those of us who are not jolly green giants. We aren't holding our breath...it was just mentioned when Cary told him I had quite the challenge getting into it every night!

After a trip to a never-before-visited thrift store and stops at Walmart and the Grocery Outlet, we had a lunch of muffins and clam chowder. Reading on the porch, waiting to hear from friends due to arrive this afternoon.

After some chatting, we walked over to Perlita's for some yummy Mexican food, continued our talking, then walked to their motel just 800 or 900 steps from our place, and talked some more. We will see more of them tomorrow.

Continuing

After breakfast we drove down to Enderts Beach, collected a few shells and sand dollars. Next time we will be prepared for collecting--a bag, box, maybe some rubber gloves!

Cary needed to refill a prescription and I checked in Safeway to see if mine was ready. It wasn't. I hope when the doctor okays it she sends it here and not to Tucson!

When our neighbor came out as we were leaving I saw that he had a nice regular table and chairs! I showed him our uncomfortable, cushionless bar stools. Later in the day he realized they had two cushioned stools with backs that they weren't using so we traded! Later we caught the housekeeper and told her about it; she said that was fine.

Still tired from yesterday, I guess, I took a nap while Cary watched Barrett Jackson.

I am glad I already have leftover meatloaf for supper!

61 degrees at 4:30 p.m.

Not sure why this didn't get posted yesterday!

Yesterday, a day late

We had a very busy day, walks, a picnic, a trek out to the lighthouse--reminding us we are not 21 anymore--a stop at the museum to drop off the microwave bowls I made as a fund raiser. Pictures to follow. I guess my phone is getting old too; it doesn't hold a charge for the whole day!

The view from our picnic spot. We stopped at Subway for a sandwich and cookies, took a thermos of coffee. So nice to be out!

Looking toward town from Battery Point
We bought a new toaster; the one here had seen better days--Cary set off the smoke alarm making his toast. We will take it with us, along with a few other incidentals we bought that we use regularly.

Easy Day

Too chilly for a walk first thing.Cary discovered this car in the parking lot--right hand drive, interesting arrangement of rear view mirrors and no "brand" name, just two symbols. My friend Pam Googled it; it is a Toyota Century. Later in the day Cary was able to talk to the owner. It is the Japanese version of a Rolls Royce! They are not sold in the U.S., owned mainly by "gazillionaires." (have to wonder about the owner's status...) He offered to give us a ride.

It eventually got warm enough for us to take another walk. Nothing like walking in the RV park, but I do plan to get in some beach walks while we are here.

The driftwood I mentioned yesterday

and the jetty seen from the beach

I also took some pictures to incorporate into my PowerPoint later. The outlets in the vacation rental don't always provide actual power...so I am going around trying to find places to plug in my phone, kindle and computer to make sure the batteries don't drain!

Our TV has zillions of channels, but nothing local or what we are used to seeing--like Jeopardy and the ABC news. Lots of news, but not the half hour shows. Good thing we have our books. And we are not here to watch TV.

Sunday, July 14

I thought I had the energy to do this tonight, but it will have to wait.

Good morning! We had a very busy day, starting with a walk in the harbor, watched some men cleaning fish--
Pretty chilly--why we are here, among other reasons!

Pointing to our "home" for the next few weeks

I didn't think to take pictures, but we had to go check out Village Camper Inn, where we have spent so many happy times. Kathy was in the office, gave us big hugs and filled is in on lots of stuff. Then we drove around to see Roy, Charlotte and Janelle. A lot of the folks are not there any more, for one reason or another. There is still no cable TV, although they have been working on it. The cable company managed to break a sewer line while they were working!

Of course we had to go down to the beach to look at the lighthouse! Lots of driftwood, will probably collect some. Charlotte was talking about making mobiles with it...as if I need another project!

Another thing I forgot to do was ask Kathy about who in the park are the RVers. We intend to take some microwave bowls over for them to sell in the gift shop, and take more pictures for our PowerPoint presentation in the spring. I did tell her we would be back sometime during the month.

I did a load of a load of laundry--took awhile to figure out how the machines worked, but I did it!

I like to check the clothes periodically so they don't over dry and start to wrinkle; the dryer wouldn't stop spinning when I opened the door, so socks shot out left and right!
Meanwhile, at home, there was a big storm, so I contacted a neighbor to check out our place. He said we lost a palo verde, but all else looks okay.

Home Sweet Home
