Day One, El Cajon

We are so excited to be on the road again after missing our trip last summer!

I usually prop my camera on the wall to get our departure picture, but the camera was too hard to get to. This is us looking into the sun trying to get a selfie!

We got an earlier start than we expected. Car was pretty easy to load--we practiced ahead of time--and I am pretty sure we got everything!

Fairly easy drive, I took over in Gila Bend, drove as far as Yuma.. Lunch at a Denny's in Yuma. I spent a few minutes in Goodwill while Cary filled up the tank at a nearby Fry's. We arrived here at the Days Inn around 2:00, read the paper until our room was ready. It's very nice. And the Denny's is just across the way!

We noticed a lot of very pathetic looking saguaros in one area on Interstate 8. They made telephone poles look healthy. The hottest temp we saw was 114. It is in the mid 80s here, the reason we chose this route.

Surrounded by foothills in every direction, the "Big Box Valley" became the namesake for the City ("El Cajon" translates to "the box" in Spanish).
