Arcata

Not a bad night's sleep, but something had to happen--the handle to the sink broke off, so we were washing our hands in the tub!

Breakfast was just okay, not as sumptuous as yesterday. Plus our company in the breakfast room was a very strange gentleman. He had had a severe stroke, could hardly navigate his way from his room. We helped out, but eventually he wound up saying how he knew things no one else did, how Covid didn't exist, that people only died from the vaccine...it was time to get back to our room!

Bought gas at the station at Rolling Hills Casino, $3.89, compared to 4.95+ elsewhere. We headed to Redding then turned off onto Highway 299, will not do that again! Just as winding as the atlas indicated, with the added bonus of at least four stops for road construction. Cary got these pictures out his window during one of them.

When we got to Arcata (about six and half hours after we left Williams), we found a place for lunch, a market/deli/bakery combination called Wildberries. After ordering, we took it on the patio to eat.

Then we started looking for motels, priced three before finding the Super 8 where we are now. I think it is the nicest motel so far. I got an email from the proprietor of the rental in CC, with the door code--very exciting--will be there Friday.
