From Phoenix to Hat Creek

Starting with our stay last night, I had to get a picture of the Pear Tree sign. Cary's last name is German for pear tree. My friend Susan tells me this area is well known for its delicious pears. We missed the season though!
A very clever and skilled person put his own slideout into this vintage trailer. We figure he has to manually get it in and out, but didn't ask.

The drive into California is beautiful. And, by the way, a very cheerful attendant at the inspection station only asked us if we had any cherries that we picked in our backyard! But I am glad I covered the possibilities anyway.

I learned that Mount Shasta is a stratovolcano, or composite, with multiple cones. It even has one named Shastina, very cute. Before we stopped for pictures, I told Cary that with the cloud cover it looked like it was erupting white smoke.
Here we are outside of Hat Creek, at the Hat Creek RV Park. Very nice, reminds me of the White Mountains in Arizona as far as vegetation and weather.

Here you can see a better example of wheere we are.

This Dodge truck from the 20s was parked in the front of the park. We had to check it out.
See the little thing at the top...?
This cable, inside the cab on the driver's side was to pull for the turn signal, which came out at the place in the picture above. Pretty neat.
